Years ago, a young comedian from Second City would
dine regularly at a sushi restaurant across the
street. Many years later the same comedian was
performing "Sushi Samurai" on Saturday Night Live.
The comedian's name was John Belushi and the little
sushi restaurant was Kamehachi.
"Bad Boy" Dennis Rodman and friends
often celebrated a Chicago Bull's win or birthday
in the upstairs bar and tatami room. The Old Town
location's upstairs became the "best hidden
corner" of Chicago.
Over more than thirty-five years, it's impossible
to tabulate all the celebrities who have dined
at Kamehachi. We started an informal list years
ago but stopped.
An unknown diner today can be tomorrow's star,
or leader, artist or visionary. Every customer
is a celebrity because no one can judge a book
by its cover, but in case you may want to know,
that person sitting next to you at the sushi bar
may just be ...
